Blog Post #2 - Celebrity

Hello, I am Angelina Jolie, the worlds most self-conscious celebrity. I recently had surgery to fatten my lips, and in my opinion, it has made a huge improvement for my looks. I have eight children. No, ten? No, sorry, I meant six children (I think), that I love very much. I care for each and every one of them, but I only supply them with necessities, as I don't want them to become spoiled. Some of these necessities includes  basic items, such as designer clothing and the latest technology of electronics. I love my boyfriend, Brad, very much, so I have decided to agree to marry him. After adopting three children and adding three of my own to the bunch, I have finally decided to execute the step that typically comes before the babies.

Explanation + Reflection

Explanation

I created this comic strip to represent how music quality keeps decreasing every year. Starting in the sixties when the Jackson 5 and the beatles owned the stage, to current day singers who destroy music in general. Everyone has a personal opinion, but to an extent, some, so called music, simply can not be called music.

Personally, I find this comic strip to be entertaining. This is because by taking the poetic lyrics sung by Michael Jackson, followed by the meaningless lyrics sung by Justin Beiber, the contrast between old and current day music is negatively drastic, and therefor, humorous.

This comic strip demonstrates certain elements of satire comedy, including sarcasm and mockery. Back in the day when people had good taste in music, Michael Jackson, one of the greatest singers of all time, was put in the spotlight. Now, the singer in the spotlight is none other than, Justin Bieber. The "artist" who's voice is not much better than that of a chipmunk's. This is mocking current day music style's as well as Justin Beiber himself.

Reflection

During the beginning stages of creating something funny,  it is difficult to come up with ideas. In my case, it took longer for me to come up with the idea than to create the comic strip itself. I believe that the reason for this is because there are so many ideas and types of comedy to choose from. Also, there is that constant feeling that you will be the only person that finds your creation funny, and that others will not understand your humour. Creating something funny is unlike anything else, as it is more difficult to do so than one would assume. After you come up with a certain idea of what your humorous creation will look like, the remaining of the process in easy. In my case, my humorous piece was a comic strip that happened to be short and simple, but still had the necessary components required to create a form of satire comedy.

Peer Pressure

Current day teens are not listening to the role models of their grade as often as they should. Children should start listening to the smart and wise kids, for example, the druggies and the vandilizers. Teens need to start making some better decisions, like saying yes when offered drugs or alcohol. By making these wise decisions, teens will live a wholesome life.

Take Johnny for example. He said no to everything the kids offered him. He said no to going to a party, that they said would be "crazy fun". Look where he is now; poor Johnny is achieving the highest marks in the grade and is constantly winning sports events.

What is Funny?

If I were to define the word funny, I would say; Anything that makes me laugh. This is a very vague definition and I'm sure it applies to everyone. Personally I find that several forms of dramatic irony amuses me, as it is easy to understand. I also find that humour that has to do with making fun of  politics and current events can also be funny. Another form of humour that amuses me is the unexpected outcome of something. For example, when one is attempting a trick on their bike. You'd expect them to land, but when they don't land as you thought they would and crash, it can be very amusing to watch.

The American Dream

There are many ways of incorporating the subject "The American Dream", but generally, it demonstrates that through hard and devoted work, anyone can live a happy and successful life, no matter who you are. There have been many protests against this definition, becuase of origin, class or race. Some people think that this does not relate to all people because of these unfourtunate truths. One way of visually explaining The American Dream, would be with a decent sized family house with a white picket fence and perfectly green grass.
